Wolves’ numbers hit modern record as feds propose to remove animals from endangered species list

Wisconsin’s record wolf population is threatening Dave Breuning’s livelihood, and there’s not much he can do about it. A Lincoln County wolf pack already has killed one of his calves and scared some of his 200 cattle into a stampede. Since those incidents about three years ago, Wisconsin’s gray wolf population has continued to expand, from a state estimate of 500 wolves then to a modern-day record of more than 800.
