Aboriginal fishermen lose appeal of convictions in 1999 Fraser River fishery

B.C.’s highest court has rejected an appeal by three First Nation members involved in a fishing dispute going back more than a decade. The case began in 1999 when members of the Cheam and Union Bar First Nations staged a fishery on the Fraser River near Mission during a closure imposed by the Fisheries Department to conserve migrating salmon.
