Federal plan to establish a national park on Bowen Island gets mixed reaction

A proposal to add much of B.C.’s Bowen Island to a countrywide system of protected national parks is receiving a mix of support and opposition from locals. Parks Canada is studying how feasible it is to include large chunks of the forested island in the Gulf Islands National Park Reserve, which was established in 2003 and already covers parts of more than a dozen other islands.

  1. Bob,Here, in Kerala, INDIA we also face the same issue. Often people feel that adding more forests to the PA network cause more damage to the cause and hence we have to be judicious.
