Role

If you have an interest in parks conservation, the Alberta Parks Division has an opportunity for you!

We currently have challenging opportunities for highly motivated individuals with a strong background in park operations, enforcement and managing people and wildlife to achieve common goals.

You will be responsible for the field delivery of the programs and operations within one of the Provincial Parks in Alberta. Your primary responsibilities will be in the areas of enforcement/compliance, public safety, contract management and natural resource management. You will also have a key role in other areas including dispositions, facility operations, and maintenance services. Reporting to the District Conservation Officer, you will also support many other program areas. Your strong communication skills will be used in developing and maintaining good working relationships with contractors, volunteers, other agencies and businesses. You will be responsible for the supervision of seasonal employees.

To be successful in one of these positions you must have good working knowledge of Parks Act and Regulations, proven leadership skills, oral and written communication skills, and a good understanding of the programs offered in the Alberta Provincial Parks and Protected Areas system.

Qualifications

A related degree in conservation or natural resources management and two (2) years of related experience in the field of park management. Equivalencies will be considered. You must have a valid Class 5 Driver’s License, a valid current Standard First Aid Certificate, CPR Level “C” Certificate and Defensive Driving Certificate or equivalency. Must be eligible for appointment as a Peace Officer. Experience with Microsoft Office Suite is required. It would be an asset for you to have the ability to swim, have working knowledge of firearms, experience with boats, all terrain vehicles and snowmobiles. Equivalencies will be considered.

Salary

$1,934.26 – $2,459.32 (bi-weekly)
$50,484 – $64,188 (annually)

Notes

Final candidates will be required to undergo a security screening, physical assessment and psychological testing. The successful candidate will be required to complete control tactics/use of force training as well as firearms (rifle, shotgun, handgun) training. Travel, shift and weekend work will be required. Candidates with lesser qualifications may be considered at a lower level and salary. This competition may be used to fill future vacancies.
