Lake Ontario water-level plan due later this year

For the third time in five years, the two-nation panel that oversees Lake Ontario water levels will float a new regulatory plan to benefit the lake’s ecosystem. The new plan, which should be released publicly by the end of this year, would allow somewhat greater natural fluctuations in lake levels to promote diversity of plant and animal life. Environmentalists say the current regulations, which strive to keep the lake within a 4-foot range of levels, have tamped down diversity and harmed the lake’s environmental health.
