Seabird numbers continue to plummet

Seabird breeding performances on a number of RSPB Scotland’s coastal reserves indicate continuing problems for the country’s internationally important seabird colonies. In light of this poor breeding performance and the mixed picture elsewhere, the RSPB is calling on Britain and Ireland’s governments to ensure that the areas of importance for seabirds at sea, particularly where they forage for food, are included and adequately protected in the networks of Marine Protected Areas that are currently being discussed for Scotland, England and Wales.
