Poll Shows Vast Majority Want B.C.’s Mining Rules To Change

Almost 80 percent of British Columbians want an end to preferential treatment for the province’s mining sector and 73 percent believe B.C.’s environmental assessment process needs to be strengthened, according to poll results released today by Sierra Club BC. Despite overwhelming concern about special treatment for the mining sector, the B.C. government announced yesterday that it will exempt “lower risk” mining activities from the permitting process.
