Rain Bird’s Online Grant Program To Award More Than $50,000 To Water Conservation Projects As Voted On By The Public

Fifth Annual Intelligent Use Of Water™ Awards Program Invites The Public To Submit And Choose Which Outdoor Water Conservation Projects Receive Funding

AZUSA, CA (November 15, 2011) – Rain Bird announced today the official launch of The Intelligent Use of Water Awards program, an interactive grant program that enables the public to submit water-conservation projects and then vote for the projects they decide are most deserving of more than $50,000 in grants.

Now in its 5th year, The Intelligent Use of Water Awards program is available to homeowners, schools, landscapers, facility managers, nonprofits, community organizations, students, retailers or anyone with an outdoor water conservation project that supports sustainability and green spaces.

Entrants participate by visiting and creating a project profile. After selecting one of the three funding categories ($1,500, $5,000, or $10,000), participants can describe the project, upload photos and/or embed YouTube videos to their project and then encourage their personal and professional networks to vote for the project using the site’s built-in social media sharing functions. Additionally, submitters can utilize the Facebook application to update their Facebook status every week with a reminder to vote for their project.

Once submitted and approved, a project is immediately made available for voting. Anyone can anonymously cast their vote for their favorite project (one vote per day, per project, per individual user). The top three projects in each funding category, according to online votes, will be awarded a combined $51,000 in grants to be used towards the completion of their winning project. Voting ends on March 15, 2012 and winners will be officially announced on World Water Day, March 22, 2012.

In developing the program, Rain Bird has assembled a team of partners that share the common goal of helping individuals and organizations make an impact in their community through the Intelligent Use of Water. Partnering in support of the Intelligent Use of Water Awards program are The Alliance for Water Efficiency, The American Society of Golf Course Architects (ASGCA), The Golf Course Superintendents Association of America (GCSAA) and the Environmental Institute for Golf (EIG), Golfdom magazine, Growing A Greener World, Landscape Management magazine, The National Gardening Association, Pebble Beach Resorts, Project WET, Smart Approved WaterMark, The Gardener Guy, and The Groundwater Foundation.
